Non-Objective is a studio for design in its widest sense. Working as a design practice & creative consultancy, we focus on context research to develop project-specific solutions, which can be translated
into various conceptual or visual languages, such as identities & design systems, digital design, printed matter, creative direction, and brand consulting. Our approach aims to make an impact on contemporary culture & the audience’s everyday life within each project.

studio profile
Non-Objective is a studio for design in its widest sense, founded in 2020 by Artem Matyushkin. Our approach is based on the notion that design is not just visuals, but a process of engineering ideas and creating new meanings. Usually there is a more complex context behind a specific task — and our job is to formulate a visual language or conceptual basis, establish processes and communications, or find the proper tone of voice.
Not limiting ourselves to one sphere, we work with cultural, educational, social, and media projects, as well as with niche and mass brands — however, we always give preference to those who share our ethical and aesthetic values. Working in a constant dialogue with our partners, we prefer collaborative projects over commissioned ones.

ideology
At Non-Objective, we aim to create projects that influence contemporary visual culture. When we think about the benefits for the studio, we think about the impact on a particular person. We believe design has the power to make people see the world in a different way, not only at the global brand level but also at the local level.
Projects for the everyday life (a coffee shop, flower shop or basic t-shirts brand) can make daily routines more pleasant, while cultural institutions (a city museum, film festival or local media) can expand people’s views of modern culture. By working with such partners, we aim to teach new perspectives in a subtle way. By changing the visual environment, we can also affect worldviews.
EXTRACURRICULAR
In addition to commercial design practice, we develop our own projects in the fields
of art, education, media, industrial design, and photography. These projects are always an invitation to a dialogue about what the designer’s job is. Together, we want to create a new context where design is not a functional tool for decoration but a means of telling stories, creating meanings, and building communities.

location
Exact location doesn’t matter anymore. Not tied to one place and constantly moving, we’re working with companies from different parts of the world and consider ourselves an international studio. Instead of sticking to one studio location, we launched “Temporary Space”.
TEMPORARY SPACE
This is an ongoing project that lets us open pop-up spaces in different locations
and with different concepts. Sometimes it’s just our workspace, yet sometimes it becomes a workshop space, exhibition hall, or design library. The first ones were on Bowery in New York and Pokrovka in Moscow, and the latest space we opened was in Saint Petersburg.
TS5
Temporary Space 5 hosts multiple projects at once: our arts & design library 35KG, showroom for our brand Praxis(abc), and also serves as a studio space for part of our team and a friendly architecture practice — OWN.
